Hello Geographers!

1. Arcrtic Field Studies

Is all this sun in Montréal seeming like a little much too soon? Well, there's always cooler! The Arctic Field Studies deadline has been extended to April 26th, and still has spots open! So if the great beyond of the Arctic is calling you, this is your chance! ...I'll just be enjoying the sun for a little B)

2. Jacques Cartier Brain Storming

The City of Montreal is leading a series of public consultations about the future of the Jacques Cartier Bridge and its surrounding neighbourhood. They've reached out to us, really keen for input from Geography and Urban Planning students from McGill. It's a chance for you to brainstorm about urban-inspired ideas and make a difference in planning decisions, but also an amazing opportunity to network and meet city-planning groups and decision makers. The meeting is on the 20th of April; check out the poster for more information!

3. For Those of Us Sticking Around

So I have found myself privileged enough to stick around burnside for the summer doing research (it's more stockholm syndrome than anything else at this point), and heard that a couple of you will be around as well!

Thought i'd just post this to let the people who're sticking around know, there'll a 'Burnside crew/cohort' so that when you're getting your Ice Cap from accross the street, to bring back timbits for the rest of us. Only slightly joking, though yes. We should organize for what's looking like a fun summer ahead of us :)

4. Mildly Interesting Map of the Week

Wondering what to do this summer out of touch from learning geography all year? Well, take the chance to learn first hand how geomorphological processes formed the place we call home and visit some of Canada's beautiful national parks! If you do go (or anywhere cool really) do send us a pic or post it to our instagram @mcgillgeography. Hover over the points in the interactive map to get more info on your next summer destination :)

5. Cool Thing of the Week

Pretty cool, and relevant to those of you from Toronto, though this is an awesome old map of the city in 1834! I really love this map as it's so humbling to what Toronto is today (i.e. the 6/Movie-set New York).

And there you have it,

So that was my last listserv. Just wanted to say thank you everyone for reading and making this such a great year for the department. I've had a great time scouring the internet for cool/mildly-interesting/meh maps of the week, though i'm also glad to be handing over the position to your new VP Comms Charlie, who I'm sure will do an amazing job and find only the most rad maps for us.

Have a great summer all, and to those who're graduating don't lose touch! We need you for alumni pannels and surprise visits in the GIC :)

Signing off,
