 PROF SEEKS ARIA FELLOW
"Dear All, I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science, working on the political economy of trade. I am looking for an UG student who is interested in applying to the ARIA fellowship under my supervision. The candidate has to be proficient in GIS and Stata (better) or R. Previous experience in handling large micro-level dataset would be welcome. To be eligible for the ARIA, you must be enrolled with the Faculty of Arts and you must be not graduating in the spring or summer. The ARIA program is a great deal for students: you would be working full time on my project for 10 weeks and you would get paid 4,000 CAD. I have already done this for the past two years and students seem to thoroughly enjoy the experience. More information about ARIA can be found here. If you are interested, please get in touch with me ASAP by email (leonardo.baccini@mcgill.ca)."

 SUMMER COURSES IN BIOLOGY

Summer field courses in BIOL are now available to students outside of biology-related programs! If you are planning to register for any of the field courses, you need to follow the instructions given on each web page to pay a deposit and request a permit to register. There is still space in Marine Mammals, BIOL 335.  This is a very popular course taught at the Huntsman Marine Center in St. Andrew's, New Brunswick, by the inspirational Catherine Hood.  You go out in boats and scuba or snorkel with a variety of sea creatures all around you. Also, BIOL 240 Monteregian Flora, still has room.  Requiring only BIOL 111 or instructor permission, this course is done at Gault Nature Reserve in Mont St.-Hilaire in July.  If you are interested in BIOL 331 Ecology and Behavior, also at the Gault Reserve, which is considered a fall course but is mostly completed in the last two week of August, you should look into it soon as it usually fills up. For more information, please contact Nancy Nelson, Undergraduate Advisor, Dept. of Biology.

This is a great way to get some experience outside of academia before graduating, as the position can be done alongside your schooling. If you have any questions about the position, the time commitment, or just what the work environment's like, you can reach out to Amelia Peres (MUGS-alum) at amelia.peres@compass-canada.com"
