 ECOLE FILM SCREENING: THE TRUE COST 

WHEN: Thursday Jan 25, 6-8pm
WHERE: ECOLE House on 3559 University St. across from Rutherford Physics

This Thursday, ECOLE is going to be showing "True Cost" a documentary about the production of clothing and the impacts of this industry. Grab a blanket, grab your friends, and get ready to learn how our clothes are produced, how it has implications both economic and environmental and how zero waste and other consumer conscious lifestyles can impact the issue! Snacks will be served, and the screening will be followed by a short discussion. Check it OUT


 ETHICS OF MAPPING DISCUSSION 
WHEN: Thursday, 25 January, 4:00-5:30pm
WHERE: GIC 512, Burnside Hall

Have you ever considered the ethics of mapping? Cartography carries a legacy of colonialism and imperialism, while modern remote or 'armchair' mapping can affect the communities being mapped in significant and sometimes unpredictable ways. At the event, we will be joined by several local researchers who will talk briefly about their work and contribute to the discussion. Come for coffee, refreshments, and what will surely be a scintillating discussion!


 CAFE COLLAB WITH THE STUDENT AID OFFICE 

WHEN: Tuesday, January 30th, 4:30 PM-6:30 PM
WHERE: Royal Victoria College West Lounge

Café Collab and the Scholarships and Student Aid Office (SSAO) invite staff from Student Services, students, and faculty members invested in supporting students in financially precarious situations to a community dinner discussion. Participants will use media pieces created by students in financially precarious situations or backgrounds to identify opportunities for Student Services to better support students with similar needs and lived experiences. A delicious free dinner is included! Additionally, childcare is available ( submit a request at least 72 hours in advance). RSVP here, or through their Facebook page.
 

 INTER MAJOR DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT 

WHEN: February 3rd at 2:30pm
WHERE: Tomlinson Fieldhouse

SIC is back with an inter-major dodgeball tournament! This is your chance to bring honour to the name of geography. Gather 9 of your friends (teams of 10) within geography, strap on your headbands, and get ready to dodge your way to 1st place. The winning team will be awarded a glorious trophy, bragging rights, and tickets to SIC's science bar! Alternative Spring Break takes place during McGill's Reading Week (March 5-9), offering students the opportunity to spend five days participating in various activities with local Montreal organizations. Students learn about and contribute to social justice issues, develop skills related to civic engagement, and immerse themselves in diverse projects.  TAKE A COURSE IN GUATEMALA 
FOUR DAYS LEFT!

Offered in Guatemala from May 2-13, 2018. The course is about: experiencing a wide variety of cropping systems, assessing their impacts of food security and the environment, traveling through Guatemala's rural and urban landscapes, enjoying visits to Mayan city ruins and Antigua Guatemala, and more! No specific background knowledge is needed, and the course is open to interested students in a wide variety of programs. Knowledge of Spanish is an asset, but is not necessary (translation is provided) The application deadline is January 26, 2018.  TUTOR FOR THE AUS ESSAY CENTRE

The AUS Essay Centre is currently recruiting essay tutors for the winter semester! Tutors meet with students at drop-in hours one hour per week to provide writing advice and essay proofreading. Applicants must meet a 3.3 cumulative GPA and be available from 11:30-12:30 at least one day of the week.  SUBMIT TO FIELD NOTES 

Field Notes, The McGill Undergraduate Journal of Geography is currently accepting submissions for publication in 2018. Field Notes is a student-run, peer-reviewed academic journal based at McGill University's Department of Geography. As an interdisciplinary publication, we encourage submissions from artists, researchers, academics, practitioners and students in a range of fields. We aim to provide a forum for critical analysis of the economic, societal, and environmental issues surrounding geography. We are looking for A or A- papers on a range of geographical subjects. Send us your best work! Please submit work to journal.fieldnotes@gmail.com by February 7th.


 FUND YOUR RESEARCH 

Social Equity Undergraduate Research Awards (SEURA) will be offered to three Arts undergraduate students and two Science undergraduate students to conduct a social equity research project during summer 2018! The Social Equity and Diversity Education (SEDE) Office, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts Internship Office (ARIA) and with the Science Undergraduate Research Awards (SURA) office aim to provide equity training and research opportunities for undergraduate students, by allocating funds for them to conduct research involving strong components pertaining to equity, diversity, and social justice, full-time, during summer. You are eligible if you are enrolled in an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Arts or in the Faculty of Science (B.A., B.Sc., or B.A. & Sc.), returning to McGill in Fall 2018, and your work shows a commitment to an equity, diversity, or social justice issue. For full details on how to apply, check out the SURA or ARIA websites, or contact SEDE at outreach.sede@mcgill.ca
