1. Apartment Crawl!!!

The hype is real, the apartment crawl is coming to you (or rather you crawling to it) this saturday!!! We still have a couple tickets to sell, so if you're still on the fence as to whether you have cooler things to do this saturday (impossible if you ask me) come by tomorrow from 12-2pm, or (if there are still tickets remaining) Friday 10-12.

Just a recap:
Where: MUGS Lounge (BURN 305) (where we assemble before crawling)
When: 7:00pm This saturday (Nov.5th) *Be there on time, we'll have food!*

2. GIS DAY!!!!! (Nov.16th Save the date)

You thought the apartment crawl was big, wait till you hear more about GIS Day! When it comes to holidays, GIS day is the most wonderful time of year
(- the day off). Filled with maps, posters that beautifully describe the work being done by McGill Geography's finest, and a Keynote speaker from the Canadian Space Agency! (you could say that this GIS day will be.... "out of this world").

All this and more with fun games including (though not limited to): Trivia, "Pin the Tail on the Map", Speed-GIS (not speed dating for GIS minors, sorry), and many more! Prizes (and bragging rights) will be awarded to the best of the best.

So what's not to love? Hope to see you all there, bring your friends, and check out the itinerary here, and learn more about how GISday is celebrated Around the world here

3. GEOG Advising

Forwarding a message from our Geography Dept. Advisor regarding changes to drop in hours, give it a read so you're not surprised later!

Please be advised that your Undergraduate Program Advisor Ms Michelle Maillet will be away from the office from Friday November 11th to Monday November 21st inclusively. Advising drop in hours during this time are cancelled, and extended drop in hours will be held on Tuesday November 8th and Thursday November 10th from 1pm to 5pm. Michelle will be available over email throughout this period to answer questions and provide guidance at advisor.geog@mcgill.ca

4. Call for École Collective Members

Ecole needs some new collective members! If you're interested in joining a great sustainable group of people beyond Geog and Env exclusively, give the message below a read :)

Want to make new friends, plan sustainability events such as film screenings or skill-share workshops, experiment with urban sustainable living, or support applied student research on campus? Join the ECOLE Collective! ECOLE is a community hub for sustainability located at 3559 Rue University. We're looking for new collective members and we'd love to hear from you! Please fill out this quick form to get involved!

This panel on Entrepreneurship au Féminin will be the official kickoff to our long anticipated McGill Innovation Week 2016! We encourage you to take a look at the various networking events, panels, workshops, etc. throughout the week (as displayed on our website: https://www.mcgill.ca/innovation/mcgill-innovation-week) in hopes that there will be other events related to innovation and entrepreneurship that will appeal to you!

Our team is very much excited for MIW this year and we hope that we are able to share the success from all the hardwork of our collaborators with you! Hope to see you there for celebrating all together :)

6. Mildly Interesting Map of the Week

If I gave you three guesses as to what the first depiction of the Americas (or as I like to call em, the Canadas) on a globe were mapped on, what would you guess? If you guessed Ostrich egg (duh), you're correct! Made on the lower halves of two Ostrich eggs in 1504(!!) is this beautiful map of the week. Marvell at it.

7. Cool Thing of the Week

What's the one thing that keeps geographers up at night? Map projections and how we can't seem to get a globe on a flat surface! (this keeps me up at night... i'm just assuming we're like-minded).
Well, recently this paper map was made that FOLDS ACCURATELY INTO A GLOBE! It's witchcraft if you ask me, though check out the article about it here for more info.

So there you have it,

When I said a lot of interesting things, it might have been a slight exageration, though i'm sure you'll enjoy these very high quality events! Have a great week everyone :)
