1. Gerts Night! Do you like Beer, geography, and meeting new people? Combine these interests, and meet us at Gerts!
Talk over your favourite soil composition (i'm a loam guy myself), or discuss Le Corboozier's wacky planning over some booze with new Geo friends who'll understand your niche topic rants. (*Disclaimer: you don't need to drink at this event, I was just dying to put in a Corbusier booze pun*)
See you there, at Gerts (in the SSMU basement along the McTavish ruins for the uninformed) from 8p.m - 11p.m! on Oct.13th

2. Tea & Cookies Another relaxing Monday morning guaranteed at the MUGS lounge with some tea & cookies at 11am. Be sure to stop by :)
3. Apple Picking! We are very excited to announce that on Oct. 15th from 11am to 2pm MUGS has teamed up with MESS for an apple picking extravaganza! Cost of tickets are $10* with which we transport you to a beautiful apple orchard, and guarantee your very own big bag of apples. Meet us at the Rodick Gates at 11 on Oct. 15th to come along!

4. Mentorship Program Promoting (like last week) the amazing peer mentorship program, with the given addition of working links! Click here to sign up (for real this time) and for any further questions contact us on our webpage, or email us. And remember, Deadlines are October 6th.
5. ENVI Workshop Following last Friday's ArcMap workshop the GIC is bringing to you a workshop aimed towards people starting to work with Remote Sensing and the massive program ENVI (*hint* GEOG308). This workshop will be held in BURN 511 (behind the GIC) from 3pm - 5pm. There are 40 spots remaining, so book 'em while they're free here! you can email gicsupport.geog@mcgill.ca regarding any questions.
6. Cities in Cinema Series Screening On Monday at 5:30, the City in Cinemas group will be screening The Truman Show at the MUGS lounge. They'll be providing popcorn and snacks as we watch the first movie to ever take place in a town based on New Urbanism principles. Check out the facebook event for more info!

7. Cool Thing of the Week Australia's apparently feeling lonely down there, and is coming closer to us (by 2.7 inches a year). Because of this continental drift of 4.9 feet since the last GPS coordinates in 1994 (good ol' GDA94), they're coordinates will be updated within the year to keep GPS technology relevant and GIS saves the day again!

8. Mildly Interesting Map of the Week For those unaware, Switzerland (that country known for being neutral, having great chocolate, and Federer) also boasts having four languages (German, French, Italian, Romansh) spoken and used in day to day life, which is pretty impressive for such a small place. Wonder what their language laws are like compared to our good ol' Quebec.
