All MUGS, All the time

It's already April 1st and you know what they say: April showers bring May flowers. The sun is shining, the snow is melting and we are working at full capacity to make sure that the semester ends with a bang. Make sure to keep an eye on the MUGS FB page to constantly be up-to-date with our events. Also, are people still alive in MUGS-assassins?
This week's listserv is exclusively with MUGS announcements as we have a lot to get through so make sure to read the whole thing, which I know you always do because I put a lot of work into it. As always, we are accessible through Facebook and by email at mcgillgeography@gmail.com.

Nomination for MUGS Elections

This is the last day for nominations for MUGS executives for the 2015-2016 year. All positions are open for all geography students. Simply fill the form attached to the listserv and drop it anytime on Wednesday April 1st until 4pm in the lounge.
If you have any questions about the election process or anything else, please contact us by email. We have also included the contact information for all executives in the form in case you want to learn more about the position.

Clothing Orders

MUGS Swag is here and orders are due today (April 1st) by 4 pm. We already have the coveted tuques that other departments are copying so let's make sure to keep it classy with the MUGS line of hoodies and t-shirts. Like last year, we have t-shirts and hoodies in a variety of colours with the geography logo in front and our coordinates in the back. Forms are attached with the email.
The items can be seen following each link and colours are available as long as they are in stock:

Unisex Zip Hoodie (logo on the left side, coordinates on back)
Unisex Pull-over Hoodie (logo on front, coordinates on back)
Unisex T-shirt (logo on front, coordinates on back)
Women's Fitted t-shirt (logo on front, coordinates on back)
Men's Tank Top (logo on front, coordinates on back)

We also have a brand new MUGS mug! These will be on sale for $5 and just in time for all the coffee and tea you'll need to get through the exam season.

Python Tutorial

We had a great time at the first Python Tutorial and we have another one on Wednesday April 1st from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm in the lounge. Bring your own laptop along with questions, inquiries and other help you need regarding assignments or simply your own Python projects. We have gather a list of resources plus a Facebook group to keep with updates: MUGS Python. For more information on the second tutorial, check out their FB event page.

Clothing Drive

The MUGS Clothing Drive for Dans La Rue is in full swing and you have probably seen the many bags of clothes we have collected but don't let that stop you from bringing more of your unwanted clothing! We will be collecting until April 20th.

Field Notes: Wine and Cheese

Did you know that we have our very own journal? It's called Field Notes and we are launching this year's edition with a wine and cheese! Come by on Thursday April 2nd from 5-7 pm in Burnside 426 to learn more about the journal, get your own copy and discuss important geography issues. This year's team has put an incredible work and the result is a great journal that you will want to keep. Check you the FB Event here.

Open Discussion on Austerity Measures and Undergraduate Student Associations

Following the many events, discussions, news, arguments, and reports, we are having an informal discussion with fellow geographers and SSMU representatives on austerity measures, provincial education policy, and students' responses.
This will be held in the lounge on Wednesday April 8th from 12-1 pm. This is not a general assembly of the MUGS student body but simply an open forum to learn more about what is going on. Since this is a sensitive topic, we remind you to be respectful of each other's opinions, comments, points of view, questions, and ideas.

MUGS Coffee Time

With the end of the semester around the corner and exam stress already filling the air, we are giving you a treat on the very last day of class: On Tuesday April 14th starting at 12 pm in the lounge, we will be having coffee and donuts for all! We will also be selling our new MUGS mug.

Ain't no party like a MUGS end-of-the-year party

You read it right! We are having a MUGS party to celebrate all the hard work you have done over the last two semesters. It will be held on Friday April 17th and we are putting a call out for apartments that are willing to host a group of fantastic students like ourselves to have one last hurrah before we all go back home and face the world.
If you are interested or willing to host our party, please email us at mcgillgeography@gmail.com. We will love you forever.

New GIC Rules

We have received an email from the GIC team and they have drafted new rules for the daily functioning of the GIC in order to create an optimal space for geographical studies. These rules will be enforced starting on April 1st:

Access only to card holders
Time limits on desks and computer stations
Quiet Zone will be extend to half of the GIC
Crunchy, loud food, like carrots, apples and chips, are now forbidden
GIC will become coffee-free

People featured on GICrushes will get priority seating

More a comprehensive list of rules, you can visit their website here.

Cool Thing of the Week

Start meeting new GICuties so you don't go through GICrushes withdrawl over the summer.

With Finals coming, keep these handy: McGill Counselling Services, McGill Mental Health Services and McGill Nightline at (514) 398-6246.
Thanks to Karine Makhijani for sending this week's Cool Thing of the Week: World City Panoramas in 360-degree globes! These are really cool; I wonder if someone made a Montreal one?

Have a fool-filling week! Procrastination level: rubber bands.
