Hello Geographers,

  1. Open MUGs Positions
  2. Field Studies Session
  3. Emerging Leaders Conference
  4. Cool Thing of the Week
  5. Mildly Interesting Map of the Week

1. Open MUGS Exec Positions

We are still holding elections for our remaining 3 esteemed positions to stand on the MUGS exec team (two U1's and a sustainability officer). The deadline to applying for these positions has been extended (to a date to be determined). To apply for these exciting positions and get more involved / just have a blast, fill out a nomination form, and drop it off in the 'London Tube map' tray in the MUGS lounge (BURN 305).

Here's a brief recap of what each position does:

Sustainability Officer

Leads MUGS sustainability initiatives, including a yearlong sustainability project involving MUGS executives and members at large.

U1 Rep

Represents the U1 class to MUGS. Sits on the Undergraduate Affairs Committee to advise departmental changes.

U1 Rep (mentorship)

Same roles as the U1 Rep, but with the added role of Rep to the mentorship program.

2. Field Study Session

Join Geography, see the world. Live up the title of 'Geographer' and attend an information session on Sept. 21st about our department's exciting field semester opportunities and travel to Kenya*, the Arctic circle, or Panama and get credit for it! Learn more at BURN 426 from 5pm - 6pm next Wednesday

3. Emerging Leaders Conference

Brought to you by 'Campus Life & Engagement', is an opportunity to sign up for great 'mini-workshops' that allow you to develop leadership skills and meet some new people! So if this interests you, stop by New Rez next Thursday (Sept. 22nd) ~~Click the image for more info~~

4. Cool Thing of the Week

In Paris al two weeks after converting the right bank to a 'car-free' zone, the Urban space is already transforming and 'non-motorized habits' are emerging! Bien Joué Paris, you're making Jane Jacobs proud :')

5. Mildly Interesting Map of the Week

So someone with a lot of time on their hands mapped out the U.S. by only using the 8 million miles of dirt trails, roads, and highways on good ol' QGIS. ...Also it looks pretty.

That's a wrap!

Not too much to report this week, though we have many things in the works to announce in the near future!
Also, email us if you want to promote any Geog related events/news.
Stay awesome, and until next week :)
