Hey geographers! It's that time of week again; time to read the awesome and very informative listserv!


U1 REP AND SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER ELECTIONS


If you want to run for a U1 rep or Sustainability officer position on MUGS council, please have your nomination forms and blurbs in by FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH. We will select candidates next week. Remember, your blurb should be about 300 words and describe why you will be an asset to MUGS council and what you will do.


LOCKER RENTALS/RENEWALS


The deadline to RENEW your locker in Burnside from last year is FRIDAY at 2:30pm. After this time we will be cutting open the locks.

That said, if you want to RENT a locker for the upcoming year and there are none available this week, please come back next week because there may be some new lockers available.


FIELD NOTES: THE NEW GEOGRAPHY JOURNAL


It's here! Miriam Dreiblatt and Jeremy Keyzer are getting together to create a journal written by geographers, for geographers. Field Notes provides a medium for students and faculty to engage in discussion on geographic thought and practice. It will exhibit written and visual work to represent the varied disciplines within the department.


Call for submissions!


Field Notes is accepting undergraduate research from the various fields of geography. The journal will publish both written and visual material. Academic paper submissions and freestanding maps must be of A or A- quality. Field Notes will accept material from past years as well as from recent graduates (Fall 2011/Winter 2012). Please send submissions (in a Word document) tojournal.fieldnotes@gmail.com by October 1st, 2012.


GEOSPECTIVES SEMINAR


Don't forget the tomorrow is the first GeoSpectives seminar of the year! On  FRIDAY September 14th at 3pm in Burnside Hall, room 426, Dr. Ashlee Cunsolo will be speaking on Climate Change and Inuit Mental Health: Local Voices, Global Implications. How interesting! Hope to see you all there.


NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC IS COMING TO MCGILL


On Saturday Sept. 29, the National Geographic Society is holding a workshop at McGill to recruit applicants for their "Young Explorers Grant" (up to $5000, age 18-25). There will be a free daytime workshop to learn about the application procedure and hear from past Young Explorer recipients and a free evening lecture by National Geographic Explorers Kenny Broad and Conrad Anker.
