(MUGS) CLOTHING

-------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Geographers,

So there has been a (cough) MINOR hiccup in the clothing orders. The coordinates on the back are labeled as "N" twice, instead of a "W" after the longitude. Now, this can just be seen as a funny joke really- the "collector's edition" of geography t-shirts, if you will. Or it's a test of your geography skills- if people notice the "error", then they are on top of their game. Or it is a futuristic location that will exist in the future, and we geographers are just so ahead of the times

If you DO have a problem with the mislabeling, please send an email to eomcnamee@gmail.com and we can get your shirt or sweatshirt reprinted with the correct coordinate. You must email ASAP, no later then MONDAY APRIL 26 at NOON. This ONLY applies to people that ordered a tshirt, or the pull-over hoodie- all other items were embroidered (such as the zip up hoodie) and are not effected.

If you don't have a problem with it, be sure to come pick up your clothes as soon as you can!!!!

(MUGS) CLOTHING| Summer research

6:33:00 pm McGill Undergraduate Geography Society 0 Comments

*** mcgillgeography@gmail.com *** http://mcgillgeography.blogspot.com ****

--------------------------------------------------------
Hello Geographers!

i) GEOGRAPHY CLOTHING HAS ARRIVED! Please take the opportunity to come pick-up your clothing order tomorrow in the MUGS lounge (Burnside 305), between 10am and 5pm. That's TOMORROW Friday, April 23rd between 10 and 5. We can't wait for you to see it!!!

ii) SUMMER RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY: Gain research experience & practice GIS!!!

Interested in research and thinking about graduate studies? Want to practice or learn more GIS?

This is an opportunity to gain more experience using ArcGIS, and learn about research at a graduate level. The main project is titled "Ecosystem Resilience and Structural Legacies in the Colorado River Delta, Mexico". I am looking for an undergrad student who is interested in joining my research project to develop new skills or master his/her previous mapping skills in ArcGIS. The project aims to map landscape changes in land cover over a period of 40 years in the Colorado River Delta, Mexico. For this project, developing good mapping skills will require you to combine aerial photo interpretation, visual classification skills, map editing, spatial data management, and spatial analysis. These skills you will develop while working on the project and under the supervision of Itzel Hernandez (PhD candidate) and Dr. Jeanine Rhemtulla. All materials, a nice space to work and great supervision will be provided.

Requirements:
- Enthusiasm and motivation to learn new things or expand those that you already know
- Basic ArcGIS understanding is desirable (but not limiting). If you have taken GEOG 201 (Introductory Geo-Information Science) or GEOG 306 (Raster Geo-Information Science) that will be a plus!
- Time available to work on the project over the Summer 2010 (about 12 hr/week)
- Reliability and commitment (serious applicants only!)

So, why this could be a great opportunity for you? Simple, this will give you technical experience (great for jobs!) and a firsthand perspective on graduate studies. Those who are thinking about grad school as a choice will understand that gaining some insights from other's experiences could help in their own decision making process. Depending on your performance there will be other benefits: a) the possibility of earning credits for your work as an Independent Student Course (GEOG 490); b) for high quality work, sharing the authorship of publishable information will be also considered.

· All candidates will be interviewed for the position
· This is an unpaid position

Dates: mid May to August 31st 2010.
Contact: Itzel Hernandez (PhD. Candidate). Cell: 514-265-1268
Department of Geography; Burnside Hall, Room 427 from 9 am to 6 pm (Monday to Friday)

Hello Geographers!

i) A final reminder that Geography Clothing is NOW available!!! We will be selling zip-up hoodies, pull-over hoodies , T-shirts (Tri-blend, organic cotton and regular) AND totebags. Attached is a detailed list of styles and prices, as well as an order form.Today is the LAST DAY! You can drop by the MUGS lounge from 12-2 to place your order. If you are unable to make it during these times, you can drop off your order form and a check in the MUGS mailbox in the geography office on the 7th floor of Burnside.

iii) COURSE EVALUATIONS MATTER: The system is available 24/7 from Monday March 22 to Wednesday April 14, 2010 for courses following the regular schedule. Students can access their course evaluations in Minerva/ Student Menu/Mercury Online Course Evaluations/Submit your course evaluations. Please take the time to fill them out!

did you know...
1) Course evaluation results from previous terms are available in Minerva/ Student Menu/Mercury Online Course Evaluations/View course evaluation results.

2) Students may now "opt-out" of evaluations for one or more courses. By doing so, they no longer receive reminders and we can better understand their reasons if they provide comments. This is easy to do by clicking the "Decline Course Evaluation" button for a specific course.

3) No questionnaire is longer than 25 items, and students may choose to answer only those questions they wish—it really is quick to provide your feedback.

In order for us to ensure that the system responds to student and instructor needs for information, it would be extremely helpful if students would take the time to communicate if the current system is not meeting their needs. This can be done easily with the opt-out feature now available—simply click the "Decline Course Evaluation" button for a specific course and then follow the link to the anonymous survey where students may provide us with details of why they do not wish to evaluate the course. This is the only way we have to obtain the information necessary to improve the system.

cheers,
M.U.G.S.
